Aria Resort & Casino
Welcome back and Happy Friday!
In today’s post we have a look at the interesting architecture of the Aria Resort & Casino in Vegas. The repeating pattern of lines on this massive building drew my attention from several blocks away so there was little doubt that I would have this on my morning shot list. The resort is actually a series of buildings but I chose this tightly framed shot to highlight the building’s detail.

My pal Mark Neal stimulated some thought the other day in his post where he made a case for color. It reminded me of how popular B&W images continue to be, and always will be for that matter. I set out to produce more of them this year than in past times but admittedly, slowed my pace a bit in recent months. Having a strong preference for color is not a help.
So back in the saddle, as they say…
To round out the post we have this sepia toned version, tweaked in Lightroom 4 after beginning with a “Medium Tone” preset.
Well that will do it for this post.
I will be playing catch up over the weekend and visiting many of your sites. It’s been a tough week and I’ve missed my regular site-hopping routine but hope to be back in full-tilt soon.
Thanks so much for visiting and have a great weekend!

I really dig the composition, Jimi. I like both the color version and the sepia. I get a strong sense of the sepia version being an integral component of marketing media selling an idea of elegance.

I think the sepia is my favorite of the the three Jimi. The way the golden color looks with this processing is really nice.

Terrific composition Jimi. I love the patters and especially love that last version. Killer.

Very nice composition, Jimi. I like that color version best. But the sepia is perfect for the building. Oh, and thanks for the plug.

Very nice pictures… but I like color version best.
You know I really like the color but as I scrolled down and saw the sepia I said yup…for me…this works best. While it’s a modern glass building the sepia tones it down a bit but still produces a glamourous look which is what I associate with the Aria. Does that make sense?

I like the composition here, Jimi. I think that the treatments for each version of this image worked better than the one before as I scrolled down the page with the sepia toned version being my personal favorite.

[...] I recall this day being one of those roasters where the temperatures were in the 105 degree (F) range. There was a slight haze in the sky which I cleared somewhat with an adjustment layer in Photoshop CS6. Typical of Vegas, there were no clouds to help the scene. I spent an entire week there and only caught a lovely sky on one morning, which you can see here at the Aria. [...]
