Twas a foggy and hazy morning when I last visited the Top of the Bay in Havre De Grace Maryland, where the historic Concord Point Lighthouse stands proudly. This was also the place where I captured this riverside stroll.

The Concord Point Light was constructed in 1827 by local resident John Donahoo who used granite as the main material for this 36 foot tower. Donahoo’s work was so impressive that he went on to build another dozen or so lighthouses in the state of Maryland. This lighthouse, with it’s whitewash finish, remained in service until 1975.

Just think, there were not many shoreline cities or communities in the early 19th century so these navigation aids were tremendously important for safe travel on the waterways of the east coast at that time.

As I took this photography I was imagining the difficulty of navigating the open waters in fog, as was present on this particular morning. Standing on the shoreline, visibility was down to approximately 100 feet, a scary situation when traveling among rocky outcrops and sometimes shallow waters.

As you can see, the Sun is far above the horizon yet the fog has not completely burned off, which causes the sunlight to cast a glow over the entire area.

In Lightroom 4 I have created a few B&W presets for easy and quick conversions like the one below.
