Today we return to the Star Spangled Sailabration held in Baltimore (mid-June 2012) that marked the bicentennial of the war of 1812 and inspire Francis Scott Key to write the U S National Anthem.  Tall ships sailed into port from around the globe for this event and provided quite a spectacle.

The KRI Dewaruci, operated by the Indonesian Navy, is shown below.

In a previous post we had a peek at this tall ship in the background of this boat rental image.

These massive vessels are truly a sight to behold and are always immaculately maintained.

Construction of this ship began in 1932 and was completed 20 years later, after a suspension of the project during World War II. It’s overall condition gives no hint of it’s true age.

Below we have a black and white version.

Both images were pulled into Lightroom 4 where a landscape preset was applied before making other slider adjustments. The B&W was also converted in LR4.

Thanks for clicking by, see you soon. ;-)

Fantastic images, Jimi. Wish I’d have known about the Star Spangled Sailabration. I would have been there for sure. I really like the color version. The details seem to be more pronounced than with the b&w.

Yes, I think most of the flotilla made it’s way up the east coast with stops in NY & Boston. I remember you posting an image of the Gloria. They are all wonderful to see in person.

  8. Great reflections in the smooth early morning waters, Jimi! I think the color works better here, mainly due to the reflection which seems to lose its definition in the B&W.

  14. [...] The Tall Ship Dewaruci – historical large sailing vessels make for the best photography, and Jimi Jones showcases why in this great post.  Known as Tall Ships, these classics are full of character and romance, and in this case Jimi captures a great shot and shares it in his post in both color and black-and-white. 15. Very nice processed … Especially the lines and the net are sharp.

Did you use one raw image or tripod?
