Over the Top
It’s the middle of August and Summer is beginning to wind down. There is however, plenty of fun to be had before the end of the season and one of the many things that people enjoy is a trip to an amusement park. For the bold and brave, no trip to an amusement park is complete without taking a high-flying ride on a roller coaster. I have long been a fan of them, in fact, they were pretty much the only thing I would ride. The thrill of the unknown twists, turns and loops brings a heart-pounding level of excitement. Roller coasters, most people love them or leave them alone.
Today I wanted to share just a few images from the “Over the Top” collection. First we have this ride in the clouds.
And you thought the clouds were for computing. Imagine the thrill of dropping down these rails at speeds approaching 70 MPH.
Next we have a Race to the Bottom on an old fashioned wooden roller coaster. These are purported to have the best ride, although I have honestly never been able to tell the difference.
Below, this cool family seems to think this is just another ride in the park.
Of course Junior wants to be in the driver’s seat. A real Family Affair.
Rounding out the fun is this “Hang Time” image.
This ride allows you to hang your feet in the wind and even dips along the course to let you literally get your feet wet from a few strategically placed spraying stations. That must be a blast on a really hot day.
Thanks so much for visiting!

Nice shots, Jimi. But not for me. . .I’m a little too mature for that stuff now.

Wow, really captures the joy of being on a coaster! The old wooden coasters really beat me up since they are more “rickety”, but I enjoy them both. Nicely done!

Nice series of shots, Jimi! Just love the last one – the uncluttered image and wonderful close-up is perfect.

This is great … I love how your lens go so close to the riders of the rollercoaster. I love rollercoasters, actually. They just put a new and VERY scary rollercoaster up in the theme park in Toronto, ON. I just went on it a few weeks ago and I loved it. Although, my expression while on that ride, probably would not make for a pleasant image.

You’d think with my love for fast cars that roller coasters would be something that I enjoy. Nope! A little too hairy, even for me! BUT, these great shots really showcase the action and excitement of these rides and I got to enjoy them without any of the side effects!! Great post my friend, I really enjoyed this one a lot!

[...] Over the Top – these shots of roller coasters are so wonderful in capturing the fluid action of these rides that I honestly feel a little queasy. No better way to enjoy a roller coaster than with your feet firmly planted on Terra Firma… unless, of course, you enjoy these sorts of things in which case these great photos will definitely have you with one foot out the door heading to your favorite theme park! [...]
Awesome shots! Do you have to be on the roller coaster to get these? Scarey.
Hi Maribel, thanks for visiting.
These were actually taken from the safety of the ground with a 200mm zoom lens. In fact, I was not even inside the amusement park. It took a little time to get things lined up like I wanted but was well worth it.
