Welcome back!

Today we have another HDR waterfront scene, looking across the creek as the eyes navigate through a series of pier posts where once a dock stood strong. Perhaps there are plans to rebuild the decking portion but I found this to be an interesting look for some reason. ;-)

To arrive at the result above I started with another 3-shot bracket (-2 to +2), run through HDR Efex Pro, then imported into Photoshop. Once there the overall image was desaturated to make the colors softer.

With the house in the background being partially shaded, it rendered those areas as dark and lacking of detail. For instance, you could not see anything on that screened-in porch, including the screening itself. To remedy this situation I pulled in a +2 exposure layer and masked some of the shaded elements into view, including the stonework on each side of the patio doors.

Those small changes provide big results visually, so taking the time to find small details in an image are well worth the effort. Look for items that provide a subtle contrast.

Wonderful composition and post processing Jimi. You’re so right about looking for the little details in a shot and bringing them out in post. It really takes an image from goo to great.

Loving the composition. Good processing too Jimi. With HDR, we try and achieve the dynamic range our eyes can see, which is why this HDR works for me.
