Sunsets, always fun to chase and always a mystery. You never know how they will turn out until the very moment you take the photo. Even then, what appears on the LCD may differ a good deal when you get inside the digital darkroom. Such was the case in today’s shot.

After patiently waiting for it to drop and form a perfect ball of fire, the clouds began to stream across the face of it, producing a different result. Don’t get me wrong, I always enjoy these no matter the outcome but I think the uncertainty is part of the allure of chasing the sun in the first place.

It was a near perfect evening atop a hill in the Susquehanna River Valley as I took in this tranquil scene. I plan to return someday to catch the view in the opposite direction (East) where the sun rises over the hills and ridges. The sun chasing continues and so does the mystery of what you’ll see. :-)

  6. I think those clouds streaming across the face of the sun are what makes this shot. The have created a wonderful aura around the ball of fire.
