You have likely heard the term “Up the Creek” many times, usually meaning that one is in a troubling situation with no way out. In this post, the term takes on a more positive annotation as it simply refers to the location of a couple of sailboats I came upon in the early morning sun while out boating.

As the sunlight filtered through the trees, one of the most beautiful mornings anyone could ask for unfolded before my very eyes. I was literally up the creek, as this is the very end of the waterway with no place else to go but back down stream and into the larger body of water known as Carter’s Creek.

I recall it being so peaceful and quiet, only interrupted by the occasional sound of fish breaking the water as they fed on bugs along the surface. This fond memory is heading to the print shop and afterward, will reside on a wall space in my office.

The image was created from a 3-shot bracket (-2 to +2) which was hand-held. During post-processing the bracketed shots were aligned in Photoshop prior to the application of my usual treatments.

Nice scene Jimi! If I can make a suggestion, since printers make blacks that are darker than we see on the computer screen, it might be a good idea to slightly lighten the shadow areas otherwise it may come out a bit too dark.

Thanks for the tip, Jason. I have my prints done by Bay Photo, who has an excellent product by the way. They will make any needed color adjustments prior to printing to insure the image comes out looking it’s best.

  14. [...] Up the Creek – as the sun crests and filters through the trees by the side of the inlet, a few boats lie tied up and waiting to welcome the new day.  The incredible natural light that drapes this scene simply defies description, making this one of our must-see shots from this week’s list.  This beautiful capture is brought to us by Jimi Jones.
