Yankee Point Light
Happy Monday everyone, I hope you enjoyed the weekend.
Here in the Mid Atlantic Region ferocious thunderstorms were experienced late Friday evening into Friday night with high winds exceeding 60 mph. Millions of people were without power for most of the weekend in portions of Maryland, Washington DC and Virginia. My home rode through okay, never losing power or sustaining damages but A good portion of Saturday was spent on the phone with friends and family who were in some way affected.
The storms, some of the worst in decades, did bring relief from the 100 plus degree days we’ve had lately, dropping temperatures to a more summer-like low nineties.
Today I thought I would share a more peaceful scene, leaving the turmoil of Friday in the rear-view mirror.
Below is an image of the boat launch ramp area at the Yankee Point Marina in Lancaster Virginia. I’ve entitled this post “Yankee Point Light” because of the small lighthouse on the pier. This is not an official light house, it’s ornamental and constructed of wood, but does make for a nice navigational aid when coming in during hours of darkness.

At the base of the lighthouse is a cute little doghouse (non-functional) which is screened off to keep out pesky critters. I love this are and the Yankee Point Marina.
A short distance to the left of this view is where I created the image “At Water’s Edge“. What a peaceful early Sunday morning shoot that was.

Wonderful calm scene. Glad you are safe. My brother still is without power.

Glad yo hear you survived the storm, Jimi! We were a little less fortunate in Northern Virginia, although not as bad as a lot of people I know – power out for 36 hours, although no damage to property, either ours or the neighbors, thank goodness.
Nice composition here my friend. I like the echos of the vertical structure of the lighthouse in the yacht masts.
